Firefox has been solid for a long time. Recently, it has started crashing while I'm off doing something else and a browser window is open. I can't recall it crashing while I'm active within FF. I'll be checking email or even just leaving the system idle, and suddenly the crash box pops up. I can upload recent crash reports (that are sent to Mozilla) but I'm not sure how to do that.

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom, follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Thanks. I knew of the crash list but didn't realize I could just copy it. Does this work?

Yes works fine, try to update any software from Symantec like your Norton Toolbar, otherwise deactivate the Norton Toolbar extension and check if the issue persist.

thank you

Download the current full installers for your Norton programs and save them.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installers.

Norton showed where to exclude things from Autoprotect Open Norton Administrative Settings. Under Performance Monitoring, find Program Exclusions. To its far right, press the Configure + link.

You will have to add each program one at a time from the Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Maintenance Service<Windows> folders..

Just getting back to this as I've been traveling. I'll look into these options.

One point I'd add to the conversation is that both my laptop and desktop are exhibiting the same behavior. Both are running nearly identical systems including the same version of Norton NIS. It would seem that if it is the interaction between Norton and FF, it is not because of some odd install or corruption on a single system.
