How do I update Adobe Reader v 11.0.10 on Mac OS X 10.8.5 to the latest version? I've downloaded update from Adobe's site; FF check plugins says AR is outdated.

I'm unable to update Adobe Reader v 11.0.10 to the latest version on Mac OS X 10.8.5. I have gone to Adobe's website: https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/ and tried to update Adobe Reader DC while following all the instructions on the adobe.com help menu. I go through all the steps listed on the help menu, and at the end of the installation, adobe.com says that the installation was successful. However, I know the installation must have failed because when I go to FireFox check plugins, FF indicates that my Adobe Reader plugin is vulnerable ("Status") and says under "Action" that I should update it now. Here is the link to the FF page where I check my plugins: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/?utm_source=firefox-browser&utm_medium=firefox-browser&utm_campaign=plugincheck-update . On Adobe's website I noticed that my exact operating system 10.8.5 is not included in the drop down menu, so I chose Mac OS Intel 10.8. I'm unsure if Adobe Reader's update failure is due to adobe.com's lack of an update for Mac OS Intel 10.8.5.

Please advise on how I can successfully update my Adobe Reader (DC) v 11.0.10 on my Mac OS X 10.8.5. Thanks in advance!

You can try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder and maybe addons.sqlite as well to reset the plugin registry databases.

See Re-initializing the plugins database:

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

The best way to update Adobe Reader is to use Help > Check for Updates from inside the product. The reason is, Adobe does not post every update on its website, so the version there may not always be the latest.

Now... about the plugin checker... I don't know whether the plugin checker can handle both the classic Reader and the DC version. The plugin version looks a bit different between the two of them.

Actually, there may just be a glitch in the site at the moment. My current plugin version number (classic) is 11.0.11.18, and the version number the site is checking against is version 11.0.11. So... that doesn't match, but I am confident that my version is the latest available from Adobe, so I'm not going to panic.

@cor-el: My Adobe Reader is now up to date. I followed the steps and then when the Adobe application popped up in my dock, I told it to update Adobe Reader. It worked like a charm. Thanks for your helpful suggestions! Deleting the pluginreg.dat file and re-initializing the plugins database did the trick.
