When I print in Chrome I get a preview page. How do I do this in Firefox?

I use the US postal service to print my business labels, which I need to preview to make sure the size is correct, since I don't like wasting adhesive label paper. When I click Print Label in the USPS dialogue in Chrome I get a full preview, but in Firefox the print happens with no preview, so I sometimes end up with the wrong size label, and have to rescale and reprint. This is a waste of time and resources. I would like Firefox to operate like Chrome and show me the print preview. Is this too much to ask? Please advise.

Firefox has Print Preview available in two places:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Print
  • classic File menu > Print Preview

If you always use Ctrl+p, you'll have to make an exception for this site.

Note: If you do not normally display the classic menu bar, you can activate it temporarily using either the Alt key or F10.

As a keyboard path for Print Preview, you can use: Alt+f v

Hi jscher2000, your suggestions work great for printing a web page, but I am clicking on the "Print Label" button within the USPS web page. That's where I need to see the preview of the label to be printed.

Can you provide a link to the page or describe how the steps to re-create the problem? If this requires a paid account, then that probably isn't going to work...

I guess that was a dumb question: you don't get the label until you pay.

According to the USPS FAQ, you should be able to get a PDF of the label: "From the Payment Confirmation page you can print your label(s), save your label(s) as a PDF file, create another label, or schedule a pickup (Package Pickup or Pickup on Demand). Saving your label allows you to print your label later." Since PDF output is pre-configured to precise dimensions, that seems like the most reliable approach.

Hi jscher2000, thanks for working on this for me. I realize that pdf is an option, but it involves several more steps than simply clicking Print and getting the preview. I guess I'll continue to use Chrome instead of Firefox for this functionality, which I also need when printing packing slips.

Since I can't test it myself without buying a label, what does the site's "Print Label" button do? Some print buttons generate a print-formatted pop-up window and show the Print dialog in front of it. This window may or may not close itself when you finish printing, and may or may not have a menu bar. Is that their approach?
