Until recently, I was wondering why my MAFF web archive downloads often failed shortly after I attempted to save them. I later find out it was because the webpage has to stay open until the file is saved. Is there any way I can tell Mozilla there really should be a dialog box that comes up asking me if I want to close the webpage before the archiving is finished and abort the download?

I don't want to accidentally close my webpage and expect the MAFF file in my downloads folder only to find out it's not there.

It's probably too late for this to be added in Firefox 41 due on September 22, but hopefully not in Firefox 42 due November 3.

Does Firefox no longer support resumption of interrupted downloads, or does the server not support that? Both ends of the connection have to support resumption.

MAFF is not a default feature in Firefox. You have an add-on which 'adds' that feature to Firefox.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/mozilla-archive-format/ You can provide feedback to the developers here: http://maf.mozdev.org/feedback.html

An alternative - which does have a "save" notification window. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/unmht/

I don't recall the reasons why, but I switched to UnMHT from Mozilla Archive Format 9 or 10 years ago.
