I download my emails on to two computers (thankfully!) recently my laptop one has started deleting messages after a short time even ignoring settings in account

I have stared emails, set the delete limit to 5000+ emails before they can be deleted but it keeps doing it, maybe after a week or two they just disappear. They remain on my home computer but on the laptop they don't. This has only just started happening after 6months of no problems. no settings where changed.

is this an IMAP account? What retention setting does your mail providers enforce?

I use POP Mail Server

My mail provider is about 30 days after they have been downloaded. They are downloaded everyday onto the computers and all my settings are set so they must be manually deleted.

is there anything in your anti virus program logs about files like inbox or other folders that mysteriously emptied themselves? Have you right clicked the folder, selected properties and then the repair button? Just to see if it is only an indexing issue?
