Everytime "new tab" comes up firefox freeezes.
Every time the new tab feature comes up (i.e. every time I want to open a new page while in FireFox) Fire Fox freezes up and I have to hard close it and start over. What's wrong and how do I fix it other than switching browsers?

Did you set up that extension after installing it? The URL for new Tab needs to be set. Sorry, I can't tell you how to do that - I use a different extension to set the new tab URL = New Tab Tools.
