How to overwrite old tabs when opening a new tab?
Hello,
I would like to overwrite old tabs when I open new tabs (if not I just get too many tabs opened at the same time).
I found posts addressing the question of how to open tabs in new tabs instead of overwriting old ones, but I couldn't figure out how to do the opposite.
Thanks for your help

Webpages often determine how a link will open - "same" or "new" window. IOW, the coding used in the webpage determines that a new window will open from a hyperlink.
And when you're using the Firefox preference "Open new windows in a tab instead" a new Tab will open.
Sorry, I don't know of a way to change that "new" action.

Hello jeanhuguet,
For links in pages, or for bookmarks, in addition to the right-click context menu, you can use these methods to open a link in a new tab:
* Ctrl+click (hold down the Ctrl key and click the link) * middle-click (use the scroll wheel on your mouse to click the link)
If you are typing a URL in the address bar and want to open it in a new tab, you can either:
Hold down the Alt key and press Enter. Ctrl+click the "go" arrow at the end of the address bar.
An alternative method is that you could download a tab related addon and a popular one is Tab Mix Plus: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/
i hope this solves your problem
Hello Liamkenn,
Thanks for your reply. My problem is actually the opposite: I don't want to open links in new tabs.
I want to open new pages by overwriting previous tabs, but Firefox automatically open new tabs.
In other words, I don't want new tabs.
Thanks!

For links opened via JavaScript you can look at this pref:
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
