I have the latest version of Firefox 40.0.2. I want to delete Flash which I did in the usual way from the control panel, but I get prompted to download a new version of Flash on some of my old bookmarked websites whenever I want to play a video. I tried to run the video anyway but without success. I also tried to uninstall Flash by using Adobe's own uninstall tool (I closed the browser when I did this, but still no luck) . I decided to install google Chrome as a temporary solution and I don't have a problem. I thought about reinstalling Firefox from scratch but I don't want to lose my bookmarks. I don't appear to have Flash as a plugin or add-on. Flash has always been irritatingly slow on Firefox and this new problem with the software was the final straw.

There is no getting away from the fact that some websites still require Flashplayer. You tube has switched to using HTML5 by default and so does not need Flash Player.

You probably are best reinstalling FlashPlayer for where it is needed but leaving it set as always ask, maybe even consider use of a script or adblocker, because a lot of sites use FlashPlayer to serve adverts.

(In fact I see you already use adblockplus) Note FlashPlayer is built in to Google Chrome so that Plays Flashplayer content without you needing to install a separate FlashPlayer
