Troubleshooter is not a signed add-on and is disabled
The thing is, Troubleshooter is a mozilla add-on, so why would it not be signed?

It's obsolete now, definitely not a native component, and you can remove it if you like.
(Now, when you create a new question, the "Share Data" button uses a built-in feature to read support information and doesn't need that extension.)

More specifically, the exact message is "Troubleshooter could not be verified for use in Firefox and has been disabled."
Is it in this search listing? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=Troubleshooter&appver=45.0&platform=windows
Please provide the full name of that extension or provide a link for the page where users can download that extension.
If you read support documentation from this link http://mzl.la/1J7Lcsp , you can see that add-ons installed through Official Firefox addons site ,pass through security check in order to protect users from stealing and hacking personal data. This is applicable even for all add-ons which are installed through another site . However I have made a search and find that no search result,so it may be possible that the addon not comes from official addon sites.
So, please verify about digital signature of that addon from its developer or vendor site.
However if you want to override the setting to enforce the add-on signing requirement temporarily then do the following steps : type about:config into new tab url bar and hit enter. Click on "i'll careful,I promise!" and search for xpinstall.signatures.requiredand its value to false .
Note: no support will be available for any change.
PS: I have also getting the same error and This docs clarifies all doubts.
@the-edmiester: The only Troubleshooter Add-On at your link is SUMO troubeshooter, which doesn't appear to be the same. I'm 99% certain, and the only reason I'm not 100% certain is because I'm not really sure *how* to get to the homepage for the Troubleshooter that I have on my system. I've captured an image of the information from the browser at http://i68.tinypic.com/102pekz.jpg. The homepage is just the generic Mozilla page. I did not click on the "1 reviewer" link because the URL does not show when I hover on it. A search for "troubleshooter mike-cooper" comes up with irrelevant hits.
@Chandan_Baba: As described in the preceding paragraph, I cannot find helpful information abut this addon at the Official Firefox addons site. I don't deliberately install add-ons myself, so I'm not sure where it's from, though as shown in the jpg image above, the homepage is specified as the generic mozilla webpage. Which isn't very helpful. I assumed that it is native to the Firefox app itself, but if so, why would any verification be required?
P.S. I don't want to indiscriminately override. I want to know if it's a native component of Firefox, and if so, why is there a verification problem?

What you posted in image is the same as https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/troubleshooter/
You have Troubleshooter 1.1a.1-signed and the addons link has Troubleshooter 1.1a.1-signed and the author is the same mike cooper.
@jscher2000: OK, I'll delete it. Thanks. BTW, I figured out what you meant by a Share Data button by going thru the motions of posting a new question on this forum. Thanks for that.
@James: Ah, foolish me. Thanks. I got thrown by the "Sumo", and missed the author. Yes, they are the same. Though I'm guessing (rightly or wrongly) that if an add-on got installed surreptitiously, it would be easy to fake all the info on the image that I posted. And hence the need to sign and verify.
Note that current Firefox releases have a built-in API to make the Troubleshooting data available to white listed websites and there shouldn't be any need for that specific extension.

Is this the same as jscher2000's "Share Data" button? If not, is it redundant?

The Share Data button runs a script that uses the API. So it's two sides of the same coin.
The Share Data button can use the API or possibly the extension to implement the API if you would use a very old Firefox that doesn't have the built-in API. If the extension is used then you can probably see that because the modified prefs section is present an that item is always empty when the built-in API is used.

This is getting way deeper under the hood than I'm familiar with. I'm happy with the vague understanding that the two are opposite side of the same coin. Thanks!
