Lightning calendar: what does the event popup box mean "This item has recently been changed on the server?"

An Event popup reminder presents. I click "Dismiss." It immediately results in the dialog box "This item has recently been changed on the server. Submitting your changes will overwrite the changes made on the server: <submit changes anyway> <discard my change/reload>

Regardless which I select, the "...changed on the server..." box immediately reappears.

First: What is the implication of the message in that dialog box? It means nothing to me. Furthermore, it doesn't seem to matter which button I select; the dialog box immediately reappears.

The only way I've found to dismiss the original event pop-up reminder is to edit the event to delete it.

I wish there were documentation explaining that "...message has changed on the server..." dialog box. I don't understand what action I ought to take when it presents. --Especially since neither button selection seems to do anything other than recycle that dialog box.

The only way I have found to stop the appearance of the dialog box is to go to the calendar Event, and delete it.

The error message usually means that a calendar event has been modified (or a reminder has been acknowledged) from two different clients independent from each other. You can either keep the changes already made with a different client, or overwrite the changes with your currently used client (i.e. Lightning).

Why you cannot dismiss the error I don't know. If in doubt select <discard my change/reload>. Also make sure your calendar is not write-protected.

I have a very similar problem. an event I deleted 2 months ago keeps popping up in thunderbird/lightning with the message "item has changed on the server deleting the item will loose the changes." I say delete anyway and the box comes back several times then finally give up. this has been happening for a couple of weeks for this one even.

Finally got rid of the problem by deleting the google service add in and reloading it and re-connecting to my google calendar. the problem now appears to be gone.
