What mail provider? What exactly is the error.
So far we have the equivalent of "my car is broken since 3/6/16."
Just as an aside. In my part of the world and in large parts of what used to be the British empire that date reads 3rd June 2016. In other parts of the world is reads as 6th March 2016. I mention it simply to make you aware that if you use dates in an international group to be precise you can not ise that old faithful date format.
Sorry, here is the error message. Mail server pop3.live.com responded: Authentication failure: unknown user name or bad password. [Error="ProxyNotAuthenticated" AuthResult=0 Proxy=PS1PR01MB1371.apcprd01.prod.exchangelabs.com:1995:SSL]
Sorry about the date. 3rd June 2016
Thankyou so much for your help Matt. Problem is now fixed.
Oh Dear. Once I changed the server name, I stopped receiving emails again. Can you please help again Matt, as I didn't write down what the server name was before I changed it.
What server name appears in your outlook.com settings?

Looks to me like you only added part of the server name. Mine is pop-mail.outlook.com I assume your should be as well.
I changed the server name to pop-mail.outlook.com as per the instructions but it didn't work after that. Do you have any suggestions as to how I may be able to fix this please.

Yes, read the server setting that appeared in your settings on outlook.com after you enabled pop and insert them into Thunderbird.
It seems to all be in order after a re-boot. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Thankyou for your help Matt.
