I need to prevent Firefox tabs from reloading after restarting, force quitting, or an unexpected computer shutdown. I already have it set so that when I first open Firefox, there is only a blank tab. However, this setting doesn't prevent tabs from reloading after an unexpected shutdown. This is a big problem if something on one of the tab is what's causing a problem.

Yes, I feel your pain. Here is the setting change you want to make:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste sess and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes preference and change the value from 1 to 0 (that's a zero) and click OK

Please do not change any other sessionstore preferences without researching or asking about them first.

Now when you restart Firefox after a crash -- intentional or otherwise -- instead of an automatic restore, you should get the "This is embarrassing" screen with a checklist of tabs you can choose to restore or not restore.

I think so! I tested it by force-quitting Firefox. I got the "This is embarrassing screen," although I think I got confused about the dialog box. I thought I would try closing the tabs one by one, but after choose one and clicking "close," everything disappeared and I was left with my usual single blank tab, which is what I wanted anyway, but I'm not sure how that happened!
