New GMX email account is found by thunderbird but erroniously thinks the correct name, email address or password is incorrect, it aso happens on an old one.

My own gmx account uses gmx.co.uk, but the servers it uses are at gmx.com, so Thunderbird always wrongly guesses the server name as, for example, imap.gmx.co.uk.
Would you have anything similar going on where you are?
