Hello all, I found a workaround, and documented it there -> https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/oemail-oapps/using-hotmail-account-with-thunderbird/59de66a5-bd2e-4148-a1cb-fa9ac368440e

Here it is for convenience:

The problem is only for hotmail.com accounts, but not for outlook.com ones.

- Log on your hotmail account on the Web - Click on the top right on the little icon or image representing you, and in the appearing menu, click on View account - A new browser tab/window opens .. inside it, click on "Your info" - Then click on "Manage how you sign in to Microsoft" - In there, you see a list of accounts aliases .. -> only 1 for me, my hotmail.com one, set as Primary - Click on "Add email" - Then make sure the radio button "Create a new email address and add it as an alias" is selected, and in the box below type in a new <account>@outlook.com you want to create. - In my case, my hotmail account name was free, so I used the same account name @outlook.com. - Click on the "Add alias" button

Now go back to Thunderbird, and either modify your account to log with your new alias in outlook.com, or create a new account, and use the same password as your hotmail account .. and all is good !!

Hope that helps.

Thank you! I was able to implement this solution this morning and MSN email account on both computers is working correctly again.

I had a Chat session with MSN and they acknowledged that this is a known issue with MSN accounts right now and they are working to resolve it but could give no time-frame as to when it might be resolved. For the time being they recommend using the alias email account solution that you recommended or simply logging into the MSN email account through the web.

Thanks again!

Wow - Thanks a million.

Tried everything else every other moron on the web suggested for days and this worked in a minute!

I've gone for this - thanks. It does actually work (and on phones), and has got me back up and running (because how long will Microsoft take to sort this out - who knows?!).

The problem has even made it to The Register... :-D  :-D

I found this solution on the microsoft forum and it works. When I posted my issue on Thunderbird forum I was looking to see if there was any other solution or a better one than adding an alias.
