How can I get rid of message pane on my laptop
I've always used a desktop computer before and been able to get rid of the message pane via the layout option. However, I've just got a laptop and there doesn't seem to be any options to get rid of the message pane. It's driving me nuts!

I love the little message pane. Why would you use anything else? ;-)
If you can't see any options you probably don't have the Menu visible. Most menu options can also be found under a new "Application Menu" button on the toolbar. See the attached picture.
I prefer the old Menu Bar so I re-enable it in all my Thunderbird windows. Press alt or F10, then View|Toolbars and tick the checkboxes.
Now you have a Menu Bar, look under View|Layout|Message Pane. Or hit F8.
In the new-fangled Application Menu, it's Options|Layout. Hover, don't click, until the final sub-menu appears.

Thanks, Zenos. Problem now solved and Thunderbird set up to my liking!
