deleted firefox and user profile Can't reinstall

Firefox was running badly. I deleted the app and the user profile since I wanted a fresh install. I downloaded the latest version of Firefox but when I open it I get "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." Evidently there are still pieces of Firefox in my system. What do I do so that I can do a fresh install?

Please create a new profile using the steps in this article: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles.

You may need to specify your OS to the page if it doesn't automatically detect that and gives you Windows or Linux steps. There is a selector in the left column under Editing Tools.

Alternately, since you know how to find your way to your Profiles folder, you can remove the profiles.ini file from the Firefox folder one level up which stores the path to your deleted profile and is causing Firefox to be confused.

Thanks but after I get the error message Firefox closes down. I cannot get to anything you suggest. Somewhere there must be a marker that I have had Firefox on my computer and it expects to find info. I want to do a complete uninstall so that when I download the app again it will look like a new computer.

Where did you delete your Firefox profile from? Usually it is along a path like this:

~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>

If you still have a Firefox folder, rename it to something like OldFox to hide it from Firefox, and try again.
