I installed firefox a couple of times now. After a while Firefox will not save my passwords. After the installation the connections is set to use system proxy settings. I don 't use a proxy so why does firefox turn it on during installation. I am not very technical so sorry for that.

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers before using sync again.

Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.

Open the Add-ons Manager. Locate the add-on and press the Options button. Then follow the directions.

Profile data can be removed or not recorded several ways;

  • 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
  • 2) Privacy settings; (Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar.)
  • 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers. Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
  • 4) Mal-ware.

Title of this thread. "I don't use proxy so why does firefox turns this on during installation?"

In response to that. In 14 years of using Firefox I have never seen Firefox "turn it on" and do a manual proxy configuration. Firefox has always defaulted to Use system-proxy settings, which the user can set to No proxy if that is causing a problem, which it shouldn't unless the user enabled or set a proxy in the operating system.

But I can't see how that has any effect with a password problem.
