After installing Firefox 51.x on Mac OS Sierra, the browser doesn't appear to recognize that it has been updated. Is there a place to force this?

After installing version 51.0.1 on an iMac with the latest version of Mac OS Sierra, Firefox does not appear to recognize that the latest version has been installed. As a result, going to the "About Firefox" window shows that 51.0.1 is installed, but that I also, in contradiction to that info, can click on the button to "Restart Firefox to Update".

Following instructions for those with past issues with Firefox. I deleted Firefox from my Applications folder. Then I rebooted the computer. Finally, I downloaded and re-installed the latest version of Firefox (51.0.1) from scratch.

Unfortunately, despite this, the problem persists. How do I get Firefox to recognize that it is, in fact, running the latest version?

For now, I suggest you not worry about it.

But the next time an update is sent out;

Do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder.

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory.

Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.
