Non basic function stop working after some period of time in windows 7 with the latest firefox 55
Everything seems to be fine after the initial startup, but after some period of time most useful functions stop working. Menubar menus will highlight when hovering and change color upon a click but nothing happens. Same with toolbar menus. THe navigation buttons are the exception, but the hold click to get a history menu doesn't work.
Right clicking for a menu does not work either.
The rendering of pages also doesn't work properly. Zimbra for example reverts to the basic html rendering because it can't use the AJAX features. Pages from the Atlassian Confluence Wiki are smashed to the left of the page.

Hello,
The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.
To Refresh Firefox:
- Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
- Click the menu button , click help and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
- If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
- At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
- Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
- Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!
Thank you.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
This problem seems to only present itself when connecting to the machine with Remote Desktop. Logging locally fixes the problem.

I am also using Remote Desktop exclusively to access my Windows 7 VM and I also have this problem. In my case, I'm using rdesktop:
Logging in "locally" is not an option as it is a VM. I have not yet tried the Reset Firefox approach, but will do so and monitor it:

The key aspect, I think, is the "but after some period of time" part of the original post. Perhaps not interacting with the Firefox window for an unspecified amount of time triggers it to go into this odd mode of menu/button unresponsiveness. It seems to me that the rest of the window remains responsive, so it is not a full process "hang".
Update: This is still present in Firefox Quantum (FF57). I'm retrying the Reset operation and give it another few days to re-assess it as I'm not sure if the FF57 upgrade was done before, or after, my attempt Reset:
