I can't post comments on The Times/Sunday Times website since the last upgrade

Before the last upgrade of the site version draft comments would show up in Arial at the top of the comments box, my log in name would also be showing on the page. Now, my log in name doesn't show up at all, despite being logged in, and draft comments are showing in Times New Roman Bold partway down the comments box. Attempts to post comments bring up up a message about trying to post malformed content. The Help team at The Times has tried resetting the comments facility in my account but this has made no difference. The Times also prefers people to use Google Chrome and doesn't seem interested in resolving Mozilla Firefox conformity problems. As this arose after the last upgrade I think Mozilla needs to sort out this problem.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Dear FredMD

Thank you for your kind assistance, unfortunately no joy. Other websites working fine. It only seems to be the Times that is affected.

Remove History For One Site

Open the History Manager <Control><Shift> H. In the search bar, enter the name of the site. Right-click on one of the listings and select Forget About This Site. This should remove all information, including any passwords / settings.

Right that seems to cure the comments problem, interestingly the usual 'logged in as ........' message is still not showing up. Does that mean that I have to start Mozilla in safe mode every time?

It could be the work of one of your add-ons. Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All Of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is, detective.

Found it. It's the McAfee Webadvisor add on that causes the problem.

Well Done.

FOUND SOMETHING.

I was having the same problem (posting Malformed Content error) on several sites so I started troubleshooting. I think these sites have invoked something to interfere with ad blockers. I did not have McAfee BUT I did have AdBlockPlus installed and even when it was set to 'disabled' I still had problems BUT once I removed it completely the problem went away. I'll leave it gone for a few days but I've seen sites do things before to interfere with ad blocking. I think they did it again.

That was good work. Please contact AdBlock support about this.

Re: It seems you're attempting to post malformed content. What works for me 100% of the time is to copy your post and then clear the original. Paste your comment and if you scroll down just a bit, you'll see ' img {-moz-force-broken-image-icon: 1;}. Delete that and click 'post' , submit or whatever the site uses. Bingo! Your comment is now posted. Pain in the butt, but it works.
