But when Firefox 57 is final and becomes the stable release, your Firefox Beta will update to Firefox 58 for the next testing cycle. That might be the time to switch off the beta channel if you want to get back into the regular schedule.

Hi

If you are using Firefox Beta, you should already have Firefox Quantum. Firefox Beta users will continue to get the version ahead of the current Release version.

Oh. Okay.

Thanks.

Ok. Thanks for helping. I'll probably switch back to the normal releases after Quantum comes out.

Thanks!

Probably a stupid newbie question, but how/where do I switch "off" the beta channel?

Hi Reckoner, Firefox stays on whatever channel you installed last. You can check your current channel on the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, look for "Update Channel". If you have beta and you prefer the stable release, you can get an installer for Firefox 56.0.1 on the following page and when you install it, Firefox should "downgrade" in the same way it does upgrades, retaining your existing data. Of course, it doesn't hurt to make a backup...

Thank you for the quick and informative reply!!! I truly appreciate it. I followed your helpful instructions and, sure enough, I'm on the "beta" channel. For awhile, I didn't mind. But with the frequency of updates and the ever-changing availability of my valued plugins, I think I need to change channels for a bit. I'm grateful for the development team's efforts at continuing to improve the speed, security, and functions of Firefox. I'm just not at a place where I can contribute to the beta development as before. Please keep up the great work!
