I've attached a screenshot of the error message. Although it says that the certificate expired in May, I know that I've sent emails until a few days ago. Time Warner Cable (which is now Spectrum) gave me the name of their mail server, which is mail.twc.com. It was previously pop-server.socal.rr.com.

However, both mail servers worked for sending & receiving mail until a couple of days ago. I can receive mail. If I go online to their server (my account with them), I can send & reply to messages. However, if I try to reply or send new messages from Thunderbird (Version 2.0.0.24) I get the error message.

Since I can send or reply from my online account, Spectrum said it must be an issue with Mozilla Thunderbird. I haven't tried to continue despite the error message because I'm somewhat worried that something has been hijacked. I've used Thunderbird for at least 10 years.

Any suggestions? Thank you, Phil

I apologize for not responding sooner. I was initially reluctant to make changes & then had numerous other computer problems. Finally, I forgot that I had asked this question, although I realize that's a poor excuse.

Updating Thunderbird solved the problem. Time Warner cable (roadrunner) had sold to Spectrum & they changed their mail servers & stopped updating the old certificates...which were still embedded in Thunderbird. Updating TB solved this.

Thank you for responding. I do realize that people like you who answer questions & give freely of their time should not be ignored. Again, I apologize!

Windows 2000? Are you kidding? What version of Thunderbird are you using?

No. Windows XP. Thunderbird (Version 2.0.0.24).

I'd suggest you update to the most recent version of Thunderbird first. https://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird/

While that may not fix your cert problem, there is no point troubleshooting a stone age version of Thunderbird.

Make sure to create a backup of your Thunderbird profile before starting . https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile
