I changed my password with my ISP and changed it within Thunderbird. I can send messages fine. BUT I CANNOT receive messages. I get this message at the bottom of my window: "Downloading message 1 of 21..." but nothing happens. I closed Thunderbird and re-opened but still no luck. I called my ISP and they are not experiencing any problems. HELP!

Hi! This is a very usual problem. Many a time it has happened which intrude the incoming mails. You need to reconfigure the account again. This will help you out

Thanks for trying to help, Juli. First of all, I fixed my problem but not by reconfiguring my account -- which I tried. My solution was to:

    * Shut down my computer (yet again)
    * Restart Windows 7 while pressing F8 (prior to when the Windows logo shows)
    * Select: "Safe mode with networking"
    * Open: Thunderbird and select: Get Messages. I had to re-enter my new email password. (NOTE: I had entered my new email password before but it didn't help then.)
    * My emails did download - yeah!
    * I re-started Windows in normal mode and everything finally works fine.

Final word, especially to you Thunderbird folks: This is a weird and very difficult issue. It is obviously easy to replicate and happens to many folks. How about fixing the problem? Or providing a warning message with a get-well plan?

Hi Pete. Thanks for the info you have posted. It is interesting, but strange. I have many accounts, and unfortunately have never experienced this problem. But I don't doubt that it happens because many users do report problems with passwords and it would be great to solve it.

I don't understand how starting Windows in safe mode can have any effect, unless some program that is not Thunderbird is preventing the password from being updated in Thunderbird.

1. Can you actually reproduce this issue again?

2. I see you previously posted https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1153044 - is your last issue here different in some way, or do you consider them to be the same. (Note, Thunderbird updates don't (or shouldn't) impact passwords)
