I just updated to 57 and lost my tabs management (I used Tabs Mix Plus). I open a lot of tabs during the day from the address bar and one of the best features of FF was the ability to use a tabs manager to open new ones from there. It still opens new tabs from search, but not from the address or from bookmarks. I really don't want to switch to Chrome, so is there a way to make FF open these in new tabs? Yes, I can right click on a bookmark, but that's one more thing I don't want to have to do.

Hello, if you type in the title of the tab, the address bar should suggest to switch to that tab for you, click that and it'll take you to that tab.

There is no tab to switch to. If I am entering a new URL in the address bar, with Tab Mix Plus, I would have it open a new tab. Now, if you type it in the new address it replaces whatever was in the current tab, which is not what I want.

I have this problem too. Tabmix Plus's feature was a main reason for me to use Firefox. From a user experience perspective, it is not clear to me why navigating to a new address (without loosing the tab I'm on right now) needs to involve two clicks rather than just hitting enter. Most users I observe have multiple tabs open and when they want to open a new website they frantically look for a tab they don't need anymore. It just does not make sense. The same is even more important for bookmarks.

Since the functionality is clearly there (Alt+Enter does the trick), why don't you just add an option to make it the default behaviour?

I'm looking for a solution to this as well

Here's an explanation of the future of TabMix Plus: http://tabmixplus.org/support/troubleshooting/data/legacy-tabmix.html

From the traditional Search Bar that "open in a new Tab" feature is still available. The preference is browser.search.openintab in about:config Doesn't affect the Search feature that is in the URL Bar, AFAIK.

Until a WE version of TMP becomes available, try using {Alt + Enter} to open what is typed in the URL Bar in a New Tab.

I have browser.search.openintab set to "true" but when I enter a URL into the Address Bar it *still* opens in the current tab. So it seems your AFAIK is confirmed. Bummer.

This is my #1 frustration with Firefox 57. Well, actually my #1 frustration is that Tab Mix Plus no longer works, but this is one of the main reasons I miss that addon. I can't begin to express how much I hate it when I paste or type an address into the address bar and hit Enter and it takes out whatever was the active tab.

Edit: For some damn reason the top of the page indicates that I am working on this problem. I have no idea why in the hell it says that. If I knew how to fix it, I would not be posting here.

For the location bar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-from-location-bar/ Doesn't work perfectly yet, but a huge step forward.

For bookmarks: about:config browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInTabs = True

Thank you pcornelius!!

Now the only thing to improve is to open in a new tab when clicking from other application (i.e. thunderbird, PDF...)
