How can I add a stand-alone STOP "X" button? I don't want it combined with the refresh/reload button; I want to use it separately to stop a page from loading whenever I want. Is there no way to do this in Firefox 57? Because if so, count me out! The reason I use Firefox is because it's customizable for the features and look and fell that I want; remove of classic theme restore (which allows a separate X stop button and many other features that Quantum apparently doesn't support) means I can no longer use Firefox the way I want to.

Sorry to be so straightforward here, but Firefox was at least user-friendly in allowing the community to develop add-ons to match any user's taste. If that's no longer a concern or a priority, well, frankly, Firefox just isn't the browser I'll be using anymore, which would be sad after many years.

Type about:customizing<enter> in the address bar. In the new window, look for the icon. When you find it, hold down the left button on it, and move it to where you want it to be. You can move any of the icons you want from here, but; some icons are locked in place.

There is also a Restore Defaults button at the bottom middle.

Note: about:customizing is no longer present in Firefox 47+ releases.

  • Press Alt or F10 to bring up the toolbar.
Then View > Toolbars > Customize.
  • Right-click on a blank spot in the toolbar and
    select Customize.
