Where did the 'Home' button go in Firefox 57 (Quantum)?

Sometimes, when I accidentally click a link on my MSN.com homepage to open an article/video on top of it, the new page hangs, forcing me to close the tab, click on a new tab (and move it to the far left) and click the HOME button to get back to my homepage. But now that we're being forced to use the new Firefox Quantum (vsn 57) the HOME button has disappeared. How do I get it back? Or, if that's no longer available, what's the workaround? Also, what is "pocket" and why would I need it?

Also the Pocket feature displays the a thumbnail with the main heading of page that you "pocketed" on the library page. So you can find the article etc. that you earmarked more quickly. Bookmarks simply create a list. Try it and you can see the difference yourself.

Moodie-1 said Hi,

If you have a lot of buttons, and the "House" button was toward the right end, it might have moved to an overflow list. That list has the >> button to drop down extra icons.

If that's not it, you can reset your toolbar button layout using the "Restore defaults" button on the Customize tab. More info in this article: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

Does that help?

Please reply if this helped you and whether we can further assist you.

Oops! I was used to seeing the HOME button at the right side of Firefox's toolbar. I've just noticed that it's now been moved to the left side, next to the reload button (the circular arrow). So that part of my question is now moot. As for the "pocket" part, a little searching on your site shows that it acts like the Bookmarks function. So now that raises another question. What's the difference between the Bookmarks function and the pocket? Are there differences with the appearance of saved sites? What about the permanence of saved sites (IOW, does the pocket delete saves between sessions)? Why would I use the pocket if I'd normally use Bookmarks? BTW, many thanks for your prompt response!

I'm am not sure about all the differences between Pocket and Bookmarks, but to me the main difference is that Bookmarks stay on your PC while Pocket uses a remote server for some (or all) of its functionality, Which is why I never "bought into" the Pocket feature.

Hi,

Actually you can use the customize function that I explained previously to move the icons on the toolbar to what ever location you want. Just click on it and drag it to another location.

Thanks to the-edmeister and safemanusa for your replies. If Pocket does use a remote server (as the-edmeister says), that really doesn't mean much to me since (AFAIK) Bookmarks only saves the site's URL (a short string of text - IOW, only a few dozen bytes), reloading all of the content each time the bookmark is clicked. This is okay for many websites, but not for all. It would be very, VERY nice if the Pocket saved a site's content as it appears (appeared) at the time of the save. This way, if that page were to change (such as an eBay offer) the user would have a record of what that page looked like at that time (similar to Google's "cache" feature but which would always work).

As Firefox and Pocket are together for what ever reason Pocket is a separate Company and makes it how they want. I see know way to do feed back but they do have a blog with info https://getpocket.com/blog/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Hi Moodie,

Please mark the reply for the chosen solution to your original question. Helps the next person to know that there was a solution and what it was. Thanks!

Pocket does seem to capture a thumbnail from the site as it appeared. But the page may not be formatted in the thumbnail the same way. The listing may be displayed as a list or a grid. The list is searchable.
