Only One Tab Is Open At A Time in FFX 57 -- No Multiple Tabs Open
I am using FFX 57 (Windows). When I click on my bookmarks in a FFX session/window only one tab opens at a time if I click on multiple/different bookmarks (i.e, ESPN, CNN, NBC, Facebook). So if I click and open a bookmark ESPN, then say click on CNN bookmark , the ESPN tab will change to CNN. A second tab isn't open for CNN and so forth. (there is a little '+' icon to right of single tab). This just happened suddenly when I launched new FFX session. Thanks for anyone's help.

Hi Boston33,
Please go to Preferences-> General-> Tabs and make sure "Open new windows in a new tab instead"is ticked.
You can find more information here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/startup-home-page-tabs-download-settings
Hope that helps!
Thanks . But I already have " Open new windows in a new tab instead" checked and I am only getting one tab only to get opened.
See screenshots with one tab open and General ->Tabs page in (FFX 57.0)
Pretty basic yet odd.
Thanks for response. I already have "Open new windows in a new tab instead" ticked and still only one tab gets opened. If I click on another link or bookmark the current tab switched/changes to a new link/page, not a second one is opened as you'd expect. I also have a '+' (plus) icon showing to right of tab that I don't recall ever being there, too. See screenshots.
So basic but so odd issue. (See screen shots).
Ahh, now I get it, it's about opening links in a new tab (thanks for the screenshot).
You probably had an older version of FF with an add-on that no longer works. Here's what you can do:
If you want to open a link (bookmark etc) directly in a new tab you need to right click and choose "Open Link in New Tab".
If you want to do this automatically (so that you don't right click every time) you will need to install an Add-On like this one: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/open-link-with-new-tab/
If you decide to use this add-on make sure that after you install it you go into Tools -> Add-Ons -> Preferences and select "Open a link to a different site on a tab".
PS: The + sign there is for you to open new windows, if you click on it a new tab will open and you can type in.
Hope this helps!
Well, I tried this add-on and didn't work. And by the way, I have the same issue with Internet Explorer 11. Bizarre.
This issue could be from perhaps from kind ofa FFX setting/config . Just a thought but I wouldn't know what to do or even look for???
Normally:
- links open in the same tab UNLESS the site has specially coded them to open in a new window (and then Firefox will usually divert them to a new tab)
- bookmarks open in the same tab UNLESS you have changed a Firefox setting (more on that below)
You can direct a link or bookmark to open in a new tab using either of these:
- hold down the Ctrl key while clicking the link
- "middle-click" the link using the mouse scroll wheel
- right-click the link > Open Link in New Tab (or Open in a New Tab for bookmarks)

You may need to adjust its settings on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then find the extension on the right side and click its Options button or More link.
You should have these options, as shown on the Add-ons site:
Bookmark-related settings:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste book and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInTabs preference to switch the value from false to true
(4) If desired, switch these as well if you think you might want to open more than one bookmark at a time:
- Open the tab in the background (don't immediately switch to the bookmarked page): browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground => true
- Keep the bookmarks menu open until you close it: browser.bookmarks.openInTabClosesMenu => false
Thanks jscher2000. The mouse commands all work to fix resolve the issue but not so much in the way the issue but I still would prefer to have simple link/bookmark click that creates a new tab ( know, sounds a bit petty...I'm a real creature of habit ). The issue just occurred suddenly. Would like to have this go back to normal.
This FFX Quantum shouldn't have been ever made. A lot of small features that should've stayed put, leave well enough alone.

Firefox 57 is normal. You probably were using the Tab Mix Plus extension before and forgot that your Firefox was customized.
Try the other steps I mentioned.
Thanks, I'l give those a try too.
