Have searched on several occasions but still can't find an answer to how to make my Firefox discontinue creating zip files of standard pdf downloads....

I have a screen shot of what we get when we download client files just gets annoying.

Any file size from 500K to 3 mb I get zipped files....don't have this issue with Safari or Chrome...our FTP site provider said to switch to Safari or Chrome.

How about the link so others can test to see if it gives them the same result? As long as it isn't something private.

sorry I should have put that down...thanks WestEnd...I'm on a Mozilla jag today my last two questions have been haunting me for several months, particularly since the Quantum upgrade...have a couple good small samples up there right now...only 716 KB and 1232 KB...

Ok, but it requires a login and that might be the reason why it sends as zip file. That's what I am thinking is happening. The site might be PDF but when you download it comes as ZIP and that could be a site setting something FF or any other Browser can control.

I my gawd...I'm brain dead today....sorry....should have posted....nothing private on the site just downloads...

What's odd though is it doesn't occur when I use Chrome or Safari

You are right reluctant to post User ID and PW to everyone out there in the forum....let me think about a workaroud to get you the access

I had contacted the holder of the FTP site, another larger Iowa publisher, and he said to his knowledge they have to parameters for ZIP files for Firefox, but he told me they use Safari or Chrome...

Copy/Paste about:preferences to the Address Bar then Enter Go down to Applications and find PDF in the list Click it to Highlight it and Make your change to what you want it to open with here. Sounds like it has gotten confused and your Zip program has been set to open them.

Suggest also looking into the settings of your zip program.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Hi Pkshadow....doggone I think I've gotten into the bottomless pit of Mozilla....

• Running MacOS Yosemite which comes with a free archive utility that doesn't force zip in Safari or Chrome but does in Firefox so it has to be something buried in Firefox (see attached preferences)

• Have gone to FF prefs (attached) but no real forced zipping required on the Mac OS platform for FF (attached)

Got any more thoughts on where I'm goofing up ? Like I said it auto zips any file size it could 100K or it could 10 MB etc.

Try preview in Firefox then can save from there as I do not see anything in the screen shot that really gives you control over it. See if will preview instead of zip. It maybe a Firefox issue in that area or the zip program does not see Firefox.

Could you also check your Mac Forum and see if there is a section on this.... Is rather weird for sure and not at all your fault as to what is going on. Is like Mac vs Firefox.....

No luck...am reaching out to our tech guru who handles issues like this with newspapers across the midwest and she has access to our FTP site UID and PW so we'll see what she stumbles upon!

Thanks, Alan
