The left index pane (sidebar) in Google News has disappeared and I don't know how to get it back.

I found the problem. For some reason the latest installation of Firefox reset the Windows screen resolution to 125%. By resetting back to 100%, I got the pane back.

Make sure you are not blocking content.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

While you are in safe mode;
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

That would be a Windows O/S scaling issue not really a FF problem.
