This isn't referring to the PREFERENCES dropdown. So the instruction is useless... And who the hell decided to make this annoying change? I didn't get a vote...

Correspondents column now default for all new folders, can be switched off with preference mail.threadpane.use_correspondents

And its been quite a while since they updated that page: >Note: Starting in Firefox 4, ...

And no "options" under the main menu bar "tools" dropdown.

nothing in the "triple horizontal bar" icon -- and WTF are you supposed to call that stupid heiroglyph anyway? This is why the Phoenicians invented an ALPHABET.

Thunderbird|Preferences == Tools|Options

So now you're looking for Advanced|General

Give us a screen shot of what you see after Thunderbird|Preferences and someone can explain it to you.

Do try reading the advice you're given.

No need to update the page when it is correct.

Options is called Preferences on Mac OSX and Linux.

For Mac OSX it is the Application name -> Preferences (in this case Thunderbird -> Preferences) is the equivalent to the "Tools > Options" on Windows.

The menus in Thunderbird and Firefox on OSX is due to Apple HIG and on Linux due to Gnome HIG.
