I use Firefox as default browser with start page "about:blank". When I start Firefox, Process Explorer (Sysinternal Suite program replacing Windows explorer) shows directly a process tree consisting of one parent- and four to five children-processes, though just one Firefox-window with one tab is opened. I cannot remember that it has been this way earlier. Symantecs Internet Security does not show any notice concerning this fact. Thankful for explanation and/or suggestion for action to be taken.

hi, firefox has been turned into a multi-process application, which has benefits in terms of performance, stability and security: https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2016/08/02/whats-next-for-multi-process-firefox/ https://wiki.mozilla.org/Electrolysis

so what you're seeing in the process explorer is intended and no action should be taken :-)
