Selecting multiple messages renders TB painfully slow. Is there a way to turn off the preview of multiple messages in the message pane?

Using TB to organize email should be easy. Especially for accounts where I get a lot of spam, selecting multiple messages to delete them should not stop the program for many seconds. It appears that displaying all message headers in the message pane is why that happens. However, even when the message pane turned off (F8) the problem persists.

I use Thunderbird on Windows 10.

I select an email with my mouse, I hold the Ctrl Key and just click away. There is NO merged display of the email I clicked on displayed in the message pane.

So I guess you have an add-on acting up. Try restarting Thunderbird from the help menu with add-ons disabled and see if things take a step up in speed. Note, if you have an add-on from an anti virus product that would be the first place I would look. They usually make the program do something weird or just slow it down until it is all but unusable

Hi Matt, thanks for your post. I have only lightning enabled and use TB 60.0b2 on Windows 10. The issue was present also with the normal release, which is why I tried the beta, and I have tried disabling all the add-ons. I also use either shift or ctrl to select multiple messages. I have just disabled the virus scan, but the issue persists.

Is this a POP3-account or IMAP? Local folder? Is selecting multiple messages slow on all folders? Try repairing the offending folders by right-clicking them, choose Properties and then choose Repair Folder and see if that helps.

I have four IMAP accounts set up. The issue is present regardless of the folder I am in. I tried the repair, but to no effect. :-( Evil Outlook handled this without problems....
