How to open another firefox window with keyboard shortcut (in program properties)?

With any program shortcut in the start menu or desktop you can right click the program shortcut and assign a shortcut key in the properties section to open the program. This can also be done with firefox but it does not allow me to open another window using the same shortcut key. For example, I can open 2 windows of Word by pressing ctrl-alt-w two times (also for any other program such as chrome). Firefox does open a new window when clicking on the firefox shortcut while the other window is open. Any ideas why the program shortcut does not work while firefox is open or how to solve it?

It sounds like Firefox is overriding that keyboard shortcut. You can open a new Firefox window using the Ctrl + N keyboard shortcut though.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know I can open a new one by pressing ctrl+N, but that only works with the firefox window active. If I have another program open that I'm working in (for example Word), then I cannot open a new firefox window using a shortcut (which is inconvenient, not a problem that I can't overcome). If anyone knows a solution, I'll be happy to hear.

Hi, keyboard short cuts are baked in and previous extensions do not have permission to remap keys like they did before due to security. This is the only one that is of use and may not have what you want : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/shortkeys/

Thanks for the reply. Not entirely sure what you mean by "previous extensions do not have permission to remap keys like they did before". The shortcut method works on any other program allowing me to open the same program more than once.
