How do I update firefox when I have not installed the maintenance service?
I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and opted not to install the maintenance service (because I was not able to avoid the auto-update that happens whenever I even accidentally go to "About Firefox"). I was not ready to let go of a few legacy extensions so I did not update till now. Now I'm ready and I find that I just cannot update firefox.
- (There's an executable to start the maintenance service, but I don't want to use that route). - Going to the about box gives me an option to download a new executable, but I don't want to reinstall and [I heard](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1154387) it would not retain all that an update would. - I tried running "updater.exe" which did nothing.
How do I *manually* update firefox? An honest to goodness way of updating, possibly with a standalone executable, would be nice.

What worked for me was running firefox as an administrator. It set off a series of pending actions that allowed it to update itself.
Although in retrospect this looks obvious given that I opted to avoid the maintenance service, it was quite confusing when there is no obvious button to say "update". Something to look into.
Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar. Then Help > About Firefox will tell you what version have. WARNING: and install any updates.
