Only way to add bookmarks is to drag a link to the toolbar. Aside from that, I can't add them. I also can't delete them by any means whatsoever. I've already tried the solutions listed here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changes-toolbars-and-window-sizes-are-not-saved they didn't work. I also don't have sync enabled so that wasn't the culprit either. None of my plugins are bookmark related. I'm using the latest version of Firefox Quantum. This is really infuriating, if it keeps up I'm going to have to go back to Google Chrome.

I called for more help. Your picture shows a problem with the file.

We can try to recover the file, or, if you don't care about recovering your history, we can just restore your bookmarks only.

If only want your bookmarks;

places.sqlite stores your History and Bookmarks.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

A bookmarks backup will be restored, but history will be lost.

Are you using any bookmark add-ons?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

well, I deleted places.sqlite and that seemed to solve my problem. I can successfully delete bookmarks again...

except none of the bookmarks I already had are getting restored, I'm stuck with absolutely no bookmarks now, Sync doesn't bring a single one back, and neither does exporting/importing it as a .json file through the bookmarks menu. It's easy enough to manually restore the ones I have since there isn't that many, but it's still a very strange situation. It's almost like my bookmarks got corrupted some how and a clean slate is the only solution.
