I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and tried to upgrade the pre-installed version of Firefox to Quantum and, after setting up Firefox sync, everything works fine except for add-on data. Specifically “Firefox multi-account containers.” It automatically installed it on Quantum however none of my container data was transferred. It is using the default config for the containers add-on. Most of my browsing happens in containers so losing all that data is a huge inconvenience.

I just realized something, When I originally installed the Firefox Quantum had not done much research and just thought i would try it out. I was under the impression that the main change was in the core of Firefox and there where little to no UI changes. However further research seemed to suggest that this is not the case and that there were in fact UI changes In Quantum that matched my current Firefox. looking under help>About Firefox confirmed that I was already running quantum and have apparently installed two identical versions of Firefox that are both in the default Ubuntu repositories. As such my problem is solved.

I do serenely apologies for not doing proper research before posting this.

I will also provide screenshots of the two versions in the Ubuntu software center if you would like to look into this to figure out why there is a duplicate.

Hi, you do not speak of Syncing to another device such as a laptop/phone/pad. So it appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service. You will loose all data.

If this is in fact wrong please let us know to proceed with helping you.

My end goal is to copy the add-on data from the my old version of Firefox (which is still installed and fully functional however only one version can be running at a time) to Firefox Quantum. After which time I will uninstall the old Firefox. As Firefox Sync worked fine in doing this for all other data (history, bookmarks, logins, etc.) I was surprised that it did not work for this. If a backup utility is better suited for this task I will happily use that instead. If so, are there any such utilities that you would recommend?
