my Firefox screen has just started to open olny 2 inches wide rather than the normal maximised screen
Until know, when I open Firefox from a desktop icon, it opened and filled the screen window. The icon is set to Maximized. But it has just started opening in a window about 3 inches wide and I have to click on the '-' in the top right corner to get the normal screen. Any ideas why this has suddenly changed. I have not added any updates or new software. I am running Windows 7 on a Dell 9020 computer.

Close Firefox. Open your file browser to this hidden location:
- Mac: *~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
- Linux: *~/.mozilla/firefox/Profiles
- Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
- *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
- Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data
\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Search for the above files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.
I tried your suggestion and it makes no difference. Firefox still starts 2-3 inches wide!
please try a Refresh but Note that this does more than uninstalling and re-installing does. Normal uninstalling does not remove some preferences which may have become corrupt. Please Refresh but do this 1st:

then
Your information cures the problem and allows Firefox to open full screen but some of my internet icons work OK but some come up with "Your connection is not secure" and the do not allow to add them as an Exception.
There is security software like Avast, Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connection certificates and send their own.

You can copy the cert9.db file from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop to the current profile folder with Firefox closed.
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
when you use the refresh feature in Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks and history, form data, tabs) is automatically imported. The current profile folder will be moved to an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.
It is possible to recover data from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
