Just importer a few thousand emails from another program into Thunderbird.. Looks like if I drag and drop a business address from the personal address book into a new folder I created called "Business" and then delete the email listing in the personal address book... the listing in the "Business" folder deletes, too... Surely to god there's a way around this without having to type in all the information for each business and then save it in the Business folder.. (I have over a hundred with extensive notes..) Basically I'm asking if there is a simple drag and drop technique to do this.

It sounds rather if your "Business" is a Mailing List and not an Address Book.

Use File|New|Address Book… to create the "Business" address book and you'll find you can move Contacts into it.

Worked like a charm... and yes.. we are a business and I needed one address book for ONLY customers so we can send out newsletters... Now I can have separate books for separate needs. Very helpful.. Thanks.. You da man..
