How do I get rid of the extremely annoying and useless "Other Bookmarks" folder which I NEVER use?
For years when I wanted to bookmark a site I clicked "Bookmark this page" and it AUTOMATICALLY went to "Bookmarks Menu". This is logical. I save bookmarks to one place, the bookmarks menu. Now it tries to save them to "Other bookmarks" and I waste time undoing it. This is not a user-friendly addition and I know I'm not alone.

Hi bborok, normally you have several seconds to start interacting with the drop-down and as soon as you do, it should patiently stay open for you.
To change the default folder from Other Bookmarks to another folder, use the add-on cor-el mentioned. Currently, there is no built-in setting for that.
A lot of times, if someone has created a highly functional add-on to address a user preference, Mozilla feels comfortable putting a new built-in preference on the back burner while it focuses on other features.
Here in support we work with the Firefox we have today and can suggest relevant features, settings changes, and workarounds.
I think this change was made in Firefox 57, so I doubt that complaining about it eleven months later is going to prompt swift action. If you want to try, you can submit suggestions through one or more of the following links:

You can look at this extension.
All new bookmarks you create are automatically created in the "Other Bookmarks" folder. There is no way to remove/hide this folder.
There was an inconsistency that started in Firefox 4:
- Clicking the star icon in the address bar or on the toolbar used Other Bookmarks
- The other methods (Ctrl+d, right-click the page, menu) used Bookmarks Menu
It's unfortunate that when they were finally made consistent, they all used Other Bookmarks rather than having a choice, but this started nearly a year ago so I'm surprised it is just affecting you now.
Anyway, the extension cor-el linked to is the best workaround.
Here's another one you might find interesting if you use a lot of folders:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmark-tab-here/
For Firefox 62, use version 0.4 on this page: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmark-tab-here/versions/
Thanks for your help. I'm afraid the conclusion is that there's no way to remove Other Bookmarks. It wouldn't be so bad if I even had a choice, but as soon as I try to create a bookmark, it immediately opens a window with Other Bookmarks already shaded. If I don't act quickly to change it, it automatically goes there.
This may sound naive but I was always under the impression that a company had user-friendless as a priority. A lot of angry and frustrated customers aren't being listened to.

Thanks again for all your suggestions, observations, and list of helpful sites. None of my issues are so pressing that I can't take a break from them. You said you were surprised that I hadn't had the Other Bookmarks problem before now. You'll have to take my word for it that this just started a couple of weeks ago. Until then, by what means I don't know, when I clicked "Bookmark this page" it defaulted to Menu, not Other. There was a Firefox update recently. I put it off as long as I could because I've blamed updates in the past for messing up unrelated functions. Whatever it was, I'll live with it.
My last reply had a typo, funny in this context. I typed "user-friendless" instead of "friendliness". Freudian slip?
