Firefox Version: 63.0.1 (64-bit). New issue (i.e. behavior not seen previously).

Currently, all attempts to download an image, from a site deemed to be "Not secure" due to having mixed content (images) fail. - Instead of downloading, a small yellow circle appears over the Down-arrow (downloads) icon. - Clicking on it shows "Failed" for every such image download attempt. - Clicking Retry for each such image causes the download to succeed (in every case). - So, yes. There's a work-around. But it's quite annoying when trying to download lots of images.

Note: I followed the 'Learn more' link associated with the security status (orange triangle) and read the article: - It says "A grey lock with an orange triangle indicates that Firefox is not blocking insecure passive content, such as images". - But that's not the case. - It also says how to "Unblock mixed content". But the method described there isn't available. - i.e. there is no "Disable protection for now" button (as described).

Is this just a new bug, or is it that the documentation needs updating? And, if the later, how to fix?

I don't think this should happen.

Does the download icon get a specific tooltip when this happens?

This issue can be caused by an extension.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Ok... did all that. Didn't fix the problem. However, I did establish it's not as universal as I first thought though. That is to say, it's only happening on one site for me.

Still, it’s a site I use often enough, and it hasn't changed anything I'm aware of (suggesting pretty strongly that it's a change in Firefox). Will go back to an earlier release (to at least confirm or otherwise that fact).

Depending on the outcome, will then see if I can work out what's unique about the site.

If you see the image on the website, but can't save the image then something else is wrong.

Can you save this image via "Tools -> Page Info -> Media" ?

You can check the Web Console for error messages.

To clarify: I can save. Just that (in these circumstances), the save always fails, and a retry always succeeds.

The exact steps (method, fail and succeed process) is as described in my opening question. Perhaps that's not clear enough? 1) I'm using Right-click (over the images) >> Save Image As... 2) It seems to proceed, except an orange dot appears on the Downloads icon (i.e. the down arrow icon on the toolbar) 3) Click the Downloads icon, and for each such image it says 'Failed' 4) Click Retry (beside each image), and it always works

I can replace Step 1 with Tools > Page Info > Media > Select Image > Save As And steps 2 to 4 are identical.

I ran the console as suggested and get two cases of: 'Warning Icon' Unknown property ‘user-select’. Declaration dropped.

The above appears on opening the console on the effected pages. No new console info is written when the downloads fail or are retried.

Don't know what that means (or if it helps)?

And, by the way, thanks for taking the time to respond.
