Could you post the full directory path, or relative path beginning somewhere recognizable? I don't recall seeing this before.

C:\users\myuserid\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\7532t6db\default\cache2\entries\a bunch of files.

I manually delete the "bunch of files and Norton/Symantec runs much faster. Firefox does not seem to care that the files are deleted. Would like to automate the delete but clearing the cache in history does not seem to have an effect

Yes, this is the "new" browser cache. I don't know why clear history is not deleting them, but i believe that Bleachbit or Ccleaner would do so. I do not have desktop/laptop on which to check this currently. (Just make sure you go through all the cleaning options and make sure only what you want to clear is checked.) This can get rid of various other small temporary files so your antivirus doesn't have to scan them, either.

And again as i cannot check, there may yet be an about:config entry by which to disable and enable cache2 entirely. Probably not optimal, though, as this is supposed to be a faster caching method.

Thanks for the help. Will just keep deleting the files manually when exiting Firefox

The cache is where data from websites are stored. Not option type data, which is stored in cookies, but webpage data and such.

Deleting these files or the folder will result in the data redownloaded when you return to the website.

We do not recommend that you use 3rd party programs to clear Firefox data as the wrong data could be removed.

See if this is better; Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

Turn on Remember My Browsing And Download History At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on Cache and Form And Search History.
