Sorry for delay....
I've located a couple of bits of info. Have look at this addon:
A bug request for this to be added was created a while ago which you could add a comment stating version of Thunderbird and your OS.

Currently available in Thunderbird Lightning Calendar: You can convert an email into a task. Right click on email in list and select 'Convert to' and choose 'Task'
Open the Calendar or Tasks tab You can convert Task into a Message: Right click on Task in list and select 'Convert to' and choose 'Message'
Thanks, I know how to convert to task. The problem is after convert to task, I want to open the original Email by click on that task.

I've also had this issue as I'm used to having a shortcut key combination in Outlook which created the new task with the email attached in the description.
Using Thunderlink I've got to a very rough approximation of that setup but it's not perfect and it's a bit clunky! It would be nice if there was an option in settings where you could say 'attach email to task' or 'insert email content in task description'.

Right click on email in list and select 'Convert to' and choose 'Task'. This will insert the email content into the Task 'Description'. So at least this part works as required automatically.
