I restarted my computer and now Firefox crashes immediately on start up.

When I launch firefox, I am immediately sent to the Mozilla Crash Reporter. If I try to start firefox in Safe mode, I see the dialog box that gives me the option to Refresh Firefox or Start in Safe Mode. If I pick "Start in Safe Mode", I get the Crash Reporter again. If I pick "Refresh Firefox" an overlay appears with no text in it and nothing happens. Also the safe mode window has really bad colors (maybe it's not set up to handle dark mode?).

I've tried uninstalling by deleting it from the Applications folder. Reinstalling using `brew cask install firefox`. Uninstalling using `brew cask uninstall firefox` and reinstalling using the DMG from the website.

Firefox was open when I began the restart. Before this, Firefox has worked without any issues.

Hi accojake, sorry to hear about the crashes. Since you already replaced the Firefox program files, do you want to try creating a new profile? This will involve using the Terminal since you can't use the profile manager page that is inside Firefox itself.

New Profile Test

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

This article has the steps to call up the Profile Manager dialog, which hopefully will be readable:

Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

Don't delete anything from the profile manager since you may need that data to copy over to a new profile.

Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Jan2019, and skip the option to relocate the profile folder. After creating the profile, select it and start Firefox in that profile.

Does it start? If so, there probably is a settings/data issue in your regular profile.

You can copy over files selectively one or two at a time, testing in between, to see how much you can get running. See: Recover important data from an old profile.

Hi jscher2000, unfortunately when I run:

/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -P

terminal outputs: Can't find symbol 'GetGraphicsResetStatus'.

And the Mozilla Crash Reporter opens.

Not sure if it's relevant, but a few days before I restarted my computer and Firefox started crashing, I installed Java, Libtool, and Graphviz through brew. Just in case it could be mucking with Firefox, I ran:

brew cask install java brew install libtool brew link libtool brew install graphviz brew link --overwrite graphviz

Hi accojake, "brew" isn't familiar to me.

terminal outputs:
Can't find symbol 'GetGraphicsResetStatus'.

Can't find symbol sounds like a file is missing or an interface doesn't match what Firefox expects. However, I can't tell what it is looking for.

Is this possibly an issue that other brew users would have encountered and have a workaround for?

Hmm, well it looks like the Developer build is working. I guess I can just use that for now.
