When I drag a tab to a subfolder in a parent bookmark folder, if my mouse looses focus on the folder for a split second the Firefox timeout collapses the folder I have to start the process all over again. So you have to have pixel perfect dragging accuracy and lightning speed. Is there anything in config to extend the timeout?

Thanks.

If you are bookmarking the current tab, you could try a different approach. See: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmark-tab-here/

Sorry, there is no timeout setting for that.

You didn't mention where you are dragging a bookmark; Library window, a Bookmarks drop-down menu, the Bookmarks Toolbar or the Bookmarks Sidebar; but I use the Bookmarks Sidebar which seems less finicky that the others, with the Bookmarks menu drop-down being almost impossible to work with.

And with the Bookmarks Sidebar I always select the 'target folder' and open it before doing the 'drag' operation. { Ctrl + B } to open the Bookmarks Sidebar.

Sorry, I am talking about the bookmark folders at the top center of my browser Bookmarks bar. When you try to drag a link into a folder's subfolder if you aren't pixel perfect the whole folder structure collapses and you have to start again.

That is what I meant by finicky.

The Bookmarks Toolbar folder appears at the top of the Bookmarks Sidebar which needs to be opened manually - I use { Ctrl + B } with my left hand, then use the mouse to drag the Tab into the Bookmarks Sidebar right into the sub-folder you target. And if the target folder isn't open already or is off the screen below, adjust the listing of folders before dragging the Tab into the target folder. No hit & miss due to being off-target a smidgeon or a pixel.

Just a different way to lick the problem ...

If you open the bookmark in a tab then you can click the highlighted star to edit the folder. You can also do a Cut and Paste in the Library or sidebar or other drop-down list if you need to go quite deep. If you want to drop a link in a folder then you need to make sure to move the mouse horizontally if you need to go to a nested folder.

Clicking the star then drilling into nested subfolders is laborious.

I guess I could open the Library. Seems like dragging to their it's easier to keep the folders open.

But you nailed it, the way that is fastest is to drag the tab into the nested folders in the Bookmarks Bar and that pinpoint accuracy with such a fast timeout makes it very challenging.

jscher2000,

now that's a handy little add on. It gives me more time to pick the nested subfolder and then just right click to drop it. This is probably the best alternative so far. Thanks.
