I have virus "traces" located in a Thunderbird "inbox" folder (65 MB in size). How do I open this folder?

I can locate the inbox folder, no problem. The issue is I can't open the folder in order to search and delete 4 older messages dating back to 2015 ..... which appear to be malicious emails indicating I had an incoming fax (in a zip file). My anti-virus software provides the exact file locations, dates, etc. Back then, I did not open the attached zip files. However, my anti-virus now picks up "traces" of a dangerous virus in these older emails. I need to open the inbox folder, locate the offending email files and hopefully completely delete them from my computer. Any help would be appreciated.

you inbox is in Thunderbird. There are no user editable files in the profile.

I suggest you just stop your anti virus even scanning your Thunderbird mail folders. The best it can do it worry you and the worst it can do is corrupt or loose entirely all your mail.

Unless you have saved these mails in your inbox folder, I suggest you right click the folder and select compact so that the housekeeping routine can remove you deleted mail from the folder. One of the things about clicking no to prompts to compact folders is that you get to keep all your old mail in the file until you do click yes or manually invoke it.

Thanks Matt. Ok, I will compact the TB inbox file folder. Hopefully as you write that will remove any deleted mail going back over 4 years ago. Will give it a try. Thanks again.
