Can't highlight on Firefox Printed PDFs? No comment allowed in permissions.

I'm running firefox 65.0.1 on Linux (ubuntu). Printing PDFs from firefox creates pdf files which uniformly do NOT have commenting privileges in Adobe Reader 9.5.5! How come? It's odd because they are simple pdfs of research papers i'm reading. Never encountered this before.

FYI Adobe Reader doesn't let you make comments. That is done with Adobe Acrobat that let's one comments or make changes in pdf flies. So unless the creator of the pdf gives permission you can't change the pdf. You said you never encountered it before and the same could be said for those here since we have no way to verify where your coming from when saying this.

Adobe Reader DOES allow commenting when permission to comment is present. ALL firefox pdf printed documents seem to have commenting permission withdrawn. I am opening up those documents from within Adobe Reader 9.5.5 and verifying permissions. They ALL say in effect "No comments allowed".

It's my understanding that IF comments were allowed, then Adobe reader would deign to SHOW you the comment toolbar which otherwise is NOT EVEN SHOWN.

Please clarify why this is happening.

What PDF printer driver are you using? I ask because Windows doesn't include one, Mac uses Apple's, and I don't know what is used on Linux.

I don't know. PDF print capability comes rather generically to Linux, i believe.

Hmm, okay, well, I don't think Firefox would intentionally introduce security to a printout of a web page. Usually it is just handling off PostScript to some other program.
