Thanks for your comment. I was hoping to avoid the addon as I seem to get endless problems with many of them. I would have thought Thunderbird would have had the opening folder option in their settings as antique systems like Outlook Express had this option donkeys years ago.

Thanks again TH - I tried the usual Moxilla option that you sent but it does not work on my TB version. I might try the addon but the problems is fairly minor so I might just plod on and always try and close TB when in Inbox. Thanks for interest - much appreciated.
