Can I change the order of accounts when checking for new mail?

I use Thunderbird to check 8 different email accounts for new mail. I would like to put these accounts in order for checking so that the most important one always gets checked first. The current order that Thunderbird uses appears to be arbitrary. It does not correspond to the order that shows in Tools-Account Settings. Nor does designating the most important account as my "default" help it to be checked first. Is there any way to do this?

My understanding is the account checking on startup is not synchronous. So you can have multiple accounts being checked at the same time, but of course the status information at the bottom of the screen will only reflect one status at a time.

Thanks, Matt. I really want to have a way for the messages to be retrieved and shown in my inbox so that my most important account is accessed by Thunderbird and displayed right away, before the others.
