I would like to reply to messages in news groups. However, I am only able to create new messages at the root level of the news group, so to speak. Replying to an already existing message doesn't work. Thunderbird supposedly successfully sends the reply, it even shows a little indicator that I have indeed sent a reply, but the reply isn't actually visible to anyone. This is what I have tried so far:

  • Changing news server
  • Changing SMTP server

A different client like Claws Mail works perfectly fine when replying to messages in news groups using the same settings as I'm currently using for Thunderbird.

Are you replying to newsgroup messages or following up? In TB, clicking Reply will send the message to the original poster's email address, which is often a fake, non-working address. Clicking Followup will send the message to the newsgroup as a reply to the original posting.

That did the trick! The naming can be quite confusing for newcomers. Thanks for helping me out.
