Suddenly my home page (my.yahoo.com) is totally blank. It loads a blue screen with no content. I use Firefox as my browser. The page displays just fine in IE. I have re-booted my PC (running Widows10 pro) and it's still blank. Any thoughts?

Turns out it was cookies. I have a super-tech friend at the office where I volunteer. He studied it and told me I needed to delete my cookies. I (reluctantly) did that and -- poof! -- my home page came back. Whew!

Thanks again for hanging in there with me. I really appreciate your time.

If a site is generally known to work in Firefox, these are standard suggestions to try when it stops working normally:

Double-check content blockers: Firefox's Tracking Protection feature, and extensions that counter ads and tracking, may break websites that embed third party content (meaning, from a secondary server).

(A) The shield icon toward the left end of the address bar usually turns a bit purplish when content is blocked. Click the icon to learn more or make an exception. See: Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox for desktop.

(B) Extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix usually provide a toolbar button to manage blocked content in a page. There may or may not be a number on the icon indicating the number of blocked items; you sometimes need to click the button to see what's going on and test whether you need to make an exception for this site.

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, click the lock icon at the left end of the address bar. After a moment, a "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button should appear at the bottom. Go ahead and click that.

In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode: In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.) A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the option/alt key when starting Firefox. (On Windows, hold down the Shift key instead of the option/alt key.) A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Thanks so much for your reply. I tried everything you said and I still have no content on my/yahoo.com. I wonder if a dll got corrupted...? I thought about re-downloading Firefox but I would then lose all of my bookmarks -- which I do not want to happen.

BTW, the problem is ONLY with my.yahoo.com. Firefox displays all of my other web pages just fine.

I can't think of anything other settings or data that would affect the page.

Is there any difference if you log into the site in a private window? You can launch that either by first opening a private window (Ctrl+Shift+p) or by right-clicking a link to My Yahoo and choosing Open Link in New Private Window.

It may be that somehow My.yahoo lost my email account. When I went into private mode (thank you -- I had never heard of that before) the yahoo page said it did not recognize my email address. I than tried to set up a new account and it wouldn't take my actual email address, as it wanted it to end in xxx@yahoo.com.

This all tarted about 2-3 days ago. I was in my home page and I simply clicked to refresh the page ( to update the news headlines) when it turned solid blue -- no content. One second it was just fine and the nexdt seconde it was blank. Weird!

That's interesting. I think in order to save your My Yahoo settings, you need an account @yahoo.com but Yahoo also has had partnerships over the years with Pacific Bell/SBC/AT&T so perhaps it could work with one of those older addresses, too. Or maybe in those cases you need to go in through the main page for your service provider. ??

Well, thanks for all your help. (I mean that.) I think I'm going to take my laptop into the PC hospital on Monday and see if someone the can figure out what's going on. If/when I get it fixed would you like me to let you know?

If they get to the bottom of it, great, it would be helpful to know what they changed. However, if their plan is to erase everything and tell you to start again, you probably don't need that kind of help!

I've been having the same issue for a few days now and here are my findings.

This seems to be an issue local to this computer only. I've got two laptops, and a desktop, the latter is my main computer. The desktop is running Windows 7 as is one of the laptops, the other laptop is running windows 10. The desktop is the only one affected. All computers have same home page, Yahoo.

On my desktop, Firefox is my default browser, though I also have IE, Edge and Opera. No other browser is affected.

Tried safe mode, with good results. Close browser, reopen and problem comes back. Refreshed browser with same result as safe mode.

Backed up bookmarks etc., and removed firefox and related components using Revo on advanced settings. Reboot. Cleaned up registry with Glary. Reboot. Defrag. Reboot. Clean firefox install. Set preferences and all is good to go. Close browser and reopen, same issue.

For the time being, I'm using opera for yahoo and emails only, all other work and surfing on firefox which is my browser of choice. Not the best work around, but it works for me.

Hope this information is helpful. Any ideas, comments, moans, groans will be greatly appreciated.

I took my laptop to a tech friend. He told me to delete my cookies and that fixed it right up. So you might want to give that a try.
